New equipment for hospitals and schools in our country In its first six months, the Intesa Foundation donated almost 50 million dinars for healthcare and education in Serbia Belgrade, 18 November 2024 – With donations worth almost 50 million dinars, the philanthropic organisation Intesa Foundation has rounded off its first package of support for healthcare and educational institutions in our country. In its first six months of operation, in addition to an initial donation of equipment to the Tiršova University Children's Hospital, the Intesa Foundation also donated devices to the health centres in Valjevo and Prokuplje, as well as to the General Hospital in Leskovac, with a total value of over 44 million dinars. In addition, donations of educational aids for schools for children with developmental disabilities, worth 4 million dinars, were sent to the “9 May” Primary and Secondary School in Zrenjanin, the “Sveti Sava” Primary and Secondary School in Umka, the “Veljko Ramadanović” School for Visually Impaired Students in Zemun, the “Vule Antić” Primary and Secondary School in Vranje, and the “Vidovdan” Primary and Secondary School in Bor. “I want to thank the Intesa Foundation for these significant donations, which will help renew the entire healthcare system in our country. We will soon begin a complete reconstruction of the Valjevo Health Centre, and the equipment this institution has received will enable the citizens of Valjevo and the surrounding area to obtain adequate healthcare, from diagnostics to further treatment, at their local health institution,” said Assistant Professor Dr Aleksandar Stefoski, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia. Banca Intesa, as part of the international Intesa Sanpaolo group, founded the Intesa Foundation with the aim of providing systematic support to the community and making a long-term contribution to the development of society. In addition to strengthening healthcare and social protection with a focus on the elderly, and supporting the development of education and of children and young people, the Foundation's areas of activity also include support for women in difficult situations and the fight against social inequalities, mitigating climate change and protecting the environment, as well as local community projects. “As a leader in the domestic banking market for almost 20 years, Banca Intesa bears a great responsibility not only for the stability of the financial system, but for the whole society in which it operates. That is why, just half a year ago, with the support of our parent group, we founded the Intesa Foundation, and I am proud that the amount of our support for the work of healthcare and educational institutions across the country already stands at nearly 50 million dinars,” said Darko Popović, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Intesa Foundation and Chairman of the Executive Board of Banca Intesa, adding that the Intesa Foundation plans, by the end of the year, to further contribute to solving key social challenges in our country with donations directed at several projects focused on social protection, education and the inclusion of children with developmental disabilities, as well as improving the position of women in the business and social environment. The donations to date have covered support to hospitals in the form of equipment for cardiac-surgery, anaesthesia, rheumatology, pathological and anatomical diagnostics and intensive-care departments, as well as an ambulance vehicle, while the schools were equipped with sensory-motor rooms and with equipment and sets for sensory-motor stimulation and for voice, speech and hearing training. Lazar Gojković, Mayor of Valjevo, said the donations came at just the right moment: “We are beginning a major reconstruction and renewal of the healthcare system in our city, and the equipment that the Intesa Foundation has allocated to the Valjevo Health Centre is an exceptionally important boost and a great help. I would like to thank the Intesa Foundation for improving, through its donations, the entire system of healthcare and social protection for the citizens of our district.” Dr Vladimir Pantelić, acting director of the Valjevo Health Centre, stated: “The Intesa Foundation has procured very significant equipment for the Valjevo Health Centre, and thanks to this we continue to meet high standards in providing medical treatment and diagnostics. As our institution develops, it gains new opportunities for progress, and in the coming period we face the largest complete reconstruction so far, through which we will become a hospital for the 21st century. This donation has significantly improved the existing equipment in the endocrine-surgery unit and in the intensive-care unit of the anaesthesia service. I am very glad that the devices are already in use and are thereby helping our work and raising the quality of health services for patients throughout the Kolubara district. With this gesture, the Intesa Foundation shows that it cares about the community, for which we are very grateful.” The donations of modern medical and sensory equipment will enable hospitals and local schools to improve conditions for caring for patients and working with users, as well as the working conditions of staff, thus contributing to higher levels of healthcare, the modernisation of educational processes in the country, and the quality of life of all our fellow citizens.Banca Intesa a.d.
